Holiday Train Show

Family | 12.21.17

This past weekend, we took the kids to see the Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Gardens and it was awesome.  It’s basically a ton of model trains zipping around replicas of 150 NYC landmarks, all created using natural materials like bark and leaves.  The details were unreal, and I can’t believe how much work must have gone into creating it all.   People are awesome.

The kids were both in awe of the trains – especially Declan who has been obsessed with trains for basically his entire life.  While we were there he was brainstorming how we could make something like this in our house.  🙂  The show runs through January 15, 2018, so there is still plenty of time to go (and maybe less crowds after the holidays too?).  We bought our tickets online and I booked the earliest timeslot we could get (9:45am).  The parking lot was getting pretty full, but we were able to breeze right in without waiting in any lines.  By the time we were leaving (~10:40am) there was a crazy long line of people waiting to get in.  So, if you’re going with young kids who wouldn’t do so well in a long line sitch, I highly recommend booking an early slot!

The replica Brooklyn Bridge was seriously incredible!  ⇓

Such a silly monkey.  🙂

The kids loved how close they could get to the trains.  ⇓

The details on all the buildings they recreated were amazing!  ⇓

Taking it all in.  🙂

I love Declan’s shirt and Arabella’s dress – both from Hanna Andersson.  They were supposed to be their outfits for our holiday card photo, but due to a shipping snafu and everyone getting the stomach flu right after Thanksgiving the aforementioned planned photo never happened and I ended up using a pic we took on Thanksgiving day.  But they looked so cute together at the train show I’m thinking of doing an outfit repeat for Christmas.  🙂

There was still snow on the ground from earlier in the week and it really did look like a winter wonderland.

Not wearing her snow shoes (didn’t care at all).  ⇓

The only bummer about going early was that the Gingerbread Cafe wasn’t open yet when we left.  I have no idea if it’s good or not, but it sounds adorable. ⇓

Just 5 days until Christmas and 2 more days until we head out to the farmhouse!  We are hosting all of our family for Christmas this year (first year hosting!) and I am so so excited (and a little nervous about messing up the turkey).  Hold a good thought for me please.  Hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season and wishing you all the best in the coming year.  xoxo
