While we were in Newport Beach last month we popped up to LA for the day to visit some friends. Our first stop was the Malibu Pier, which I hadn’t been to in forever. Located along the Pacific Coast Highway right between Carbon Beach and Surfrider Beach, it is the perfect location to watch surfers, relax in the sun, and eat an insanely delicious (and healthy!) meal at Malibu Farm, the cutest restaurant perched right at the beginning of the pier. I was so excited to finally try it as this restaurant and its owner/chef Helene Henderson (as well as her cookbook) have developed something of a cult following, with Malibu Farm outposts now found in chic hotels in Miami and Lanai along with their 2 original locations on the pier.
We nestled into the most perfect table with incredible views, and I think ordered about 2/3 of the menu. I can highly recommend the cauliflower crust pizza, the chicken broccoli quesadillas, the fish tacos and the raw brussels spouts salad, just to name a few. (They also have a more basic kids menu if your littles have not fully embraced the farm-to-table plant-based food movement.)
Even though the weather was only in the low-mid 60s, the table was sheltered from the wind and felt like the most perfect summer day. We had so much fun catching up with our friends who met us there for lunch, and I honestly could have stayed right through dinner if our kids would have let us. 🙂
Love this sweet girl. ♥
After lunch we took a stroll to the end of the pier. The kids loved looking down at the water beneath us and seeing the fishermen, who were kind enough to show off the day’s catch. Declan thought that was the coolest. 🙂
After that, we headed to the beach for a little more playtime before getting back in the car. I hadn’t packed swimsuits as I didn’t think it would be warm enough to play in the water, but it actually turned out to be a beautiful day. The water was so calm (but still freezing!) and Declan had so much fun running up to the water’s edge and then running away from the little waves as they rolled in.
I just can’t get enough of her beach curls. ♥
I ♥ California.
